We had a pretty active weekend in spite of Bermuda’s “winter” weather. Temperatures dropped to around 50 at night. We even had to turn on the heat in the house for a while. But since we have individual heat pumps for each room, we can be selective in what we turn on. Saves on electricity which, like so many other things here, is exorbitantly priced.
Saturday night out to dinner at the Waterlot Inn, which is an excellent restaurant that’s part of the Fairmont Southampton Resort. Afterwards we attended a concert at the resort. It was a European pop star called Heather Nova. Yeah, we had never heard of her either, but she’s originally from Bermuda, is quite popular here, and is apparently quite successful in Europe. Our take? She was just OK. I wouldn’t run out and buy any of her CDs. But overall, a fun evening.
Yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday, and we were invited to two parties. Yup, only here four months and already we were double-booked. So we went to both – overate at both, and really enjoyed both. People on this island are really quite social, and it seems as if our circle of acquaintances grows exponentially.
To make the evening even better, we won $200 in one of the pools. We were originally cheering for the underdog Cardinals, and near the end of the game when Arizona was ahead 23-20, someone mentioned to us that if the Steelers scored a touchdown and extra point, we would be the big winners. We hadn’t really paid any attention to the pool, but at that point, as you can imagine, our allegiances quickly changed.
Only downside to the weekend was hearing that Federer lost to Nadal in the Australian Open. It was telecast live from around 3:30am Sunday morning, but we passed on watching it then. We watched a bit of it later when it was re-broadcast, but since we already knew the outcome, it wasn’t as interesting.
Busy week coming up. We’re expecting delivery of some new furniture that Kim has been buying. Until last week, it had been sitting at a freight-forwarding terminal in New Jersey. The order was finally completed, so they shipped on Friday. It should arrive in Bermuda today, and we hope get through customs and be delivered to the house by the end of the week. In the meantime, I have lots of unpacked boxes that need to be moved temporarily to make way for the furniture.
Maybe some interior photos when we’re finished.
