Stuff for Sale
Yow! What a week. We decided early that since we’ll be moving back to a (nearly) fully furnished condo in Chicago, and since we don’t know when and if we’ll buy House #2 (presumably in a warm weather place), storing all the things from the Bermuda house for an unknown period of time and for an unknown location was not the smart thing to do. So …. stuff for sale! Kim barely put up a notice in the Bacardi office, and we’ve had swarms of people in the house looking for things to buy. And they’ve been buying – much more quickly than we had expected – and at prices we thought were fair to all. I’ve even got a guy who might make an offer on our entire wine collection. At the current rate, we’ll leave here in April with suitcases only (and maybe not even that). My kind of move.

Bermuda -- A Great Place to Visit
It’s been nearly a year-and-a-half since we started our Bermuda adventure, and it’s been a bumpy road for us both. You’ve probably noticed that my blog entries have dwindled over the last few months. Maybe you thought the reason was that we were so busy with our activities that I didn’t have time. The truth is, we weren’t living the lives we had hoped for when we came, so I decided that saying nothing was a better choice. There wouldn’t have been a lot of sympathetic ears anyway.
We have made a few decisions, though. Kim and Bacardi have decided to part ways. The career opportunity isn’t quite what she had hoped for. She will be leaving the company in April, take a well-earned rest for several months, and consider options for the next half of her life (she plans to live to 100, you know). We plan to leave Bermuda and return to our place in Chicago in May.
How do we feel about leaving? Well, as much as we wanted to, and as hard as we believe we tried, we never felt that Bermuda was “home”. Never felt completely settled into our house. Never seemed to find a social niche. Never really picked up our golf clubs, except for the one time Kim insisted we go play a round. Never felt the desire to “discover Bermuda”, although maybe we didn’t give it the full shot it deserved. But we are happy to be returning to Chicago.
It was an interesting experience, and an adventure neither one of us regrets embarking upon. Although our Bermuda chapter was short, we're ready to move on.
