Las Vegas

The Adult’s Disneyworld --- amazing, over-the-top, “if some is good, more isn’t good enough”, hot, crowded (and we’ve heard this is “off” season because of the heat). These are a few of the ways we’ve been describing our experience – the first time we’ve been here.

We’ve elected not to call this a vacation – instead, it’s been a mission. The objective has been to satisfy Kim’s desire to celebrate her 50th birthday in a special way: jewelry acquisition. Toward that end, we’ve scoured all the top jewelers in the area, handled and tried on dozens of items of gold, silver, diamonds, and assorted other precious substances, disappointed some sellers, and made two of them very happy. Even Michael Anne joined in the hunt – after all she wanted some input on her inheritance.

Other activities: Cirque du Soleil’s “O”, which was a wonderfully entertaining show. Amazing athleticism, lighting, music, and choreography. Probably the only show in Las Vegas I wouldn’t want to miss. Then there was ample spa time for the girls; lots of very good eating; and maybe ten minutes of gambling. We quadrupled our twenty bucks at a slot machine, and decided to quit.

Tonight is Kim’s dinner celebration at Picasso, one of the nicer restaurants at the Bellagio.

Tomorrow we leave. Kim heads to Geneva, Michael Anne to Chicago, and I to Bermuda.

Happy Birthday to Kim.
